A gutter is only as good as its downspouts. Most older Orlando homes still run 2×3 downspouts on 5-inch gutters — sized for a different climate and a different era of building. A modern Florida summer storm dumps three to four inches an hour, and a 2×3 downspout simply cannot move that volume; the gutter overflows even when it's clean. Our default install is a 3×4 oversized rectangular downspout: roughly 75% more capacity than a 2×3, fits the same fascia profile, and barely changes the visual line of the home. We engineer placement for proper drainage — every downspout drops onto a splash block or, on slope-sensitive properties (Clermont, Mt. Dora hills), into a buried 4-inch corrugated drain that carries water to a discharge point in the yard, away from the foundation. Round downspouts (true cylindrical, riveted seam) are available for historic homes where the rectangular profile would look wrong. Pricing is straightforward and tied to size: 3×4 residential downspouts run $6 per linear foot installed; 4×5 oversized commercial-grade downspouts run $8 per linear foot installed. Both prices include splash blocks. Buried drain extensions add $50 to $150 per run depending on length. 20-year material warranty matches our gutter installation warranty.
Drainage analysis: we walk your property at a downpour-equivalent volume (we bring water to the gutter) and identify where current downspouts are overwhelmed or sending water back to the foundation.
Sizing recommendation: 3×4 oversized as default, 2×3 only for low-volume short runs, round profiles for historic-home aesthetic; we explain the trade-offs in plain language.
Discharge engineering: splash blocks for properties with adequate slope away from the foundation; buried 4-inch drain extensions for flat lots, hill properties, or HOAs with no-puddle requirements.
Installation: downspouts strapped every 6 feet to the wall (per FL Building Code), elbows and outlets sealed with industrial silicone, ground-level extensions sloped 1 inch per 10 feet for proper drainage.
20-year material warranty + drainage performance guarantee: if water still pools at the foundation after install in a normal Florida storm, we re-engineer at no charge.
